MLB The Show 26: What Helps Cole Get Strikeouts | U4GM Tips

Strikeout highlights leave out the hours spent learning why a perfectly reasonable pitch keeps getting crushed. With Gerrit Cole in MLB The Show 26, that gap matters more than the rating on the card. If you are budgeting MLB 26 stubs for your rotation, first understand the work behind effective sequencing. The two biggest obstacles are making different pitches look related and recognizing when an opponent has stopped chasing.

Build a Strike Threat Before Building a Tunnel

Cole's listed 99 OVR 2026 Postseason card pairs a 96 mph Four-Seam Fastball with an 86 mph Knuckle Curve, an 84 mph Slider, a 99 mph Sinker, and a Circle Change. Those speeds provide useful contrasts, but variety alone will not keep a hitter uncomfortable.

Start with a fastball location you can execute consistently. An upper-zone strike can establish velocity without requiring the opponent to chase. Then watch the response: an early swing suggests room for a slower pitch, while a late swing gives you reason to test velocity again.

Tunneling depends on pitches appearing similar early in flight. Simply alternating high fastballs and low curves does not guarantee that effect. Consistent execution comes first.

Use Two Strikes to Read the Hitter

The Knuckle Curve's roughly 10 mph separation from the four-seam makes it useful against someone preparing for speed. The mistake is treating every two-strike count as permission to throw it below the zone. A patient opponent can turn that habit into extra pitches and favorable counts.

◆ If the hitter swings early at velocity, try the curve with a target near the lower edge.

◆ If the hitter takes breaking pitches below the zone, return to a strike location you trust.

◆ If the hitter fouls off repeated fastballs, change speed or location instead of repeating the same target.

These are adjustments, not a fixed sequence. A curve that catches too much plate can erase the advantage created by the previous fastball.

Give Each Secondary Pitch a Specific Job

Against a right-handed hitter, the slider can work away from the bat when placed toward the outside edge. Against a left-handed hitter, that same movement changes its relationship to the hitter, so copying the target is a poor default.

The harder sinker supplies another fast option. Use it to change the location the opponent must cover, rather than assuming its movement will rescue a central pitch. If low targets are producing solid contact, test a different height with the four-seam.

The Circle Change is another timing option when the opponent commits early. Its speed is not specified here, so judge the separation and your command during play before relying on it in a difficult count.

Protect Your Pitch Count Without Forcing Strikeouts

The listed ratings give Cole 102 H/9 and 106 K/9 against right-handed hitters, versus 110 H/9 and 91 K/9 against left-handed hitters. That split does not establish one universally easier matchup: the higher H/9 and higher K/9 sit on different sides.

With 105 Stamina, efficient outs still matter. After repeated takes outside the zone, challenge a controlled edge instead of spending another pitch on the same chase. Prepare relief when location deteriorates; 119 Pitching Clutch cannot correct a missed target.

Before you buy cheap MLB 26 stubs for rotation upgrades, assess whether your current problem is card quality or predictable pitching. Cole rewards observation in MLB The Show 26: establish a strike, read the swing, and choose the next pitch for a clear reason.
